  • Clinical Instructor of Veterinary Surgery
    The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine has an opening for a clinical instructor in Small Animal Surgery. This will be a one year appointment with 38 weeks of assigned clinic duty. The primary job responsibility will be to lead a surgical service (orthopedics or soft tissue). Responsibilities will include primary patient care and clinical training of students, interns, and residents assigned to the surgical service. Other teaching assignments may include junior operative practice laboratories and limited didactic teaching of core, track and/or elective student courses. Participation is expected in general Small Animal Surgery service activities, such as meetings, resident seminars, journal club and rounds. The applicant must be committed to excellent patient management, client service, and clinical teaching. American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) diplomate status would be preferred.   • Veterinary Hospital Internship, Walt Disney, Lake Buena Vista
    The Veterinary Services hospital interns function in two roles, one is as the primary wildlife case contact, the other is as assistant to the veterinary technicians. This internship is designed to give students experience in a veterinary hospital setting where they will have the opportunity to provide patient care, keep accurate records and develop relationships with our staff of keepers, technicians and veterinarians. The wildlife intern is responsible for receiving all wildlife cases that come to the veterinary hospital from Walt Disney World property. This includes assessment, triage, giving necessary care as directed by the animal care staff and veterinarians, animal transport to rehabilitation facilities, maintenance of all records and data bases. This includes setting up supplies/equipment prior to procedures, maintenance of stock/supplies in the veterinary hospital and at satellite facilities, clean up after procedures, cleaning/packing/sterilizing instruments, assistance with sample preparation and related laboratory paperwork. The technician’s assistant provides support to the veterinary technicians. The interns are also responsible for Guest interaction and giving presentations in the on show veterinary treatment window. Qualifications:
    • Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Life Science or related major.
    • Junior, or Senior or recent graduate.
    • Computer proficiency with word processing and data entry.
    • Ability to speak in front of groups.
    • Strong interest in veterinary medicine.
    • Excellent oral communication skills.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Direct animal care experience:
    1. Minimum of 6 months at a wildlife rehabilitation facility and/or a zoological institution.
    2. Minimum of 6 months at a veterinary clinic.
    3. The experience should include cleaning and maintaining animal facilities.
