The internist will be board certified (or eligible) by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and will perform all the tasks of a veterinary internist including advanced medical procedures, ultrasound, endoscopy, laporoscopy, and bronchoscopy. The internist will work closely with the medical director to insure the highest level of care for the patients of Bergh Memorial. They will also help coordinate both the internship and residency program at Bergh. They will work closely with the staff doctors at Bergh and be available for consultations and second opinions on medical cases. Job Responsibilities: * Perform advanced medical procedures including ultrasound, endoscopy, laporoscopy and bronchoscopy. * Lead hospital rounds. * Lead intern rounds. * In house internal medicine consults on complex cases for both BMAH and Adoptions. * Coordinate internship and residency program as directed by the medical director. * Perform internal medicine consults for clients. * Prompt client and when appropriate referring DVM communication. * Represent the ASPCA as needed in the media. * Training of staff veterinarians. * Supervise staff veterinarians as appropriate with direction of Medical Director or in his/her absence. The Veterinary Services hospital interns function in two roles, one is as the primary wildlife case contact, the other is as assistant to the veterinary technicians. This internship is designed to give students experience in a veterinary hospital setting where they will have the opportunity to provide patient care, keep accurate records and develop relationships with our staff of keepers, technicians and veterinarians. The wildlife intern is responsible for receiving all wildlife cases that come to the veterinary hospital from Walt Disney World property. This includes assessment, triage, giving necessary care as directed by the animal care staff and veterinarians, animal transport to rehabilitation facilities, maintenance of all records and data bases. This includes setting up supplies/equipment prior to procedures, maintenance of stock/supplies in the veterinary hospital and at satellite facilities, clean up after procedures, cleaning/packing/sterilizing instruments, assistance with sample preparation and related laboratory paperwork. The technician’s assistant provides support to the veterinary technicians. The interns are also responsible for Guest interaction and giving presentations in the on show veterinary treatment window. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provide general sanitization of equipment used for the maintenance of laboratory animals. 2. Provide husbandry for a variety of animal species. 3. Monitor and maintain the health status of the animals. 4. Operate industrial washing machines and prepare machines for start up and shut down according to standard operating procedures. 5. Maintain assigned work areas in compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations, AAALAC guidelines, and established standard operation procedures. Periodically, this may include general cleaning and maintenance of other animal support areas. 6. Participate in the movement and storage of feed and cage wash supplies. 7. Follow strict protocols for sterile or disease control environments for animal welfare. 8. Wash and dry materials required by the clean rodent facility. 9. Maintain washer and dryer in operational condition ‘ reporting any problems to appropriate coordinator. 10. Fold and wrap materials for autoclaving. 11.
