    This internship is designed to give students experience in a veterinary hospital setting where they will have the opportunity to provide patient care, keep accurate records and develop relationships with our staff of keepers, technicians and veterinarians. The Veterinary Services hospital interns function in two roles, one is as the primary wildlife case contact, the other is as assistant to the veterinary technicians. The wildlife intern is responsible for receiving all wildlife cases that come to the veterinary hospital from Walt Disney World property. This includes assessment, triage, giving necessary care as directed by the animal care staff and veterinarians, animal transport to rehabilitation facilities, maintenance of all records and data bases. The technician’s assistant provides support to the veterinary technicians. This includes setting up supplies/equipment prior to procedures, maintenance of stock/supplies in the veterinary hospital and at satellite facilities, clean up after procedures, cleaning/packing/sterilizing instruments, assistance with sample preparation and related laboratory paperwork. The interns are also responsible for Guest interaction and giving presentations in the on show veterinary treatment window. Required Qualifications: * Junior, or Senior or recent graduate. * Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Life Science or related major. * Computer proficiency with word processing and data entry. * Strong interest in veterinary medicine. * Ability to speak in front of groups. * Excellent oral communication skills. * Direct animal care experience: o Minimum of 6 months at a veterinary clinic. o Minimum of 6 months at a wildlife rehabilitation facility and/or a zoological institution. o The experience should include cleaning and maintaining animal facilities. * Valid driver’s license.
