Compassionate Care Veterinary Clinic opened January of 2008 and is growing rapidly. Their goal is to provide quality health care in a family practice atmosphere. They recognize that their patients are a vital part of people’s caretakers families, so they aim to meet the patients medical needs to the best of abilities, while remembering to respect the family’s emotional. Compassionate Care Veterinary Clinic is looking to add 1 – 2 new veterinarians over the next 3 – 9 months. The facility opened last January and is growing rapidly. They serve a very loyal and educated, middle class region of north western Rhode Island and south eastern Mass. The clinic is owned and managed by a veterinarian with 16 years of experience, 7 of which involved management and training of new graduates, and who is in the process of earning certification with the ABVP. The support staff is highly trained, fun to work with, and highly motivated to provide the patients with the most compassionate care, their caretakers with personable and professional education, and the associates with the respect and assistance they earn. The clinic emphasizes urgent care and provides full service hospitalization, performs a wide variety of soft tissue surgeries on-site and has access to a surgical specialist for on-site orthopedic procedures. We have digital radiology, idexx in house lab equipment, ecg, blood pressure monitor and tonopen that we use regularly. Salary is based on experience and bonuses are earned based on total hospital profits, not gross production, so new associates are not penalized for not having a clientele to beef up their production. Benefits include stipends for continuing education, health and dental insurance, retirement plans, and the usual licence fees and professional dues. Relocation fees are negotiable and can be discussed during an inital phone or email “interview.” Requirements: The ideal associate has experience, but new graduates are welcome to apply. Current hours are Mon, Tues 10 -10, Wed 8-8 and Sat Sun 8-4. As we add associates, we hope to add hours and services, so if you have a particular area of expertise or a desire to develop one, you will get support. An interest in surgery is definitely preferred, as we do perform a wide variety of soft tissue elective and emergency procedures. A team attitude, love of the profession, and an ability to have fun at work are definete pluses. Work weeks are based on a scheduled 40 hour week, and day, night and weekend shifts will be rotated fairly between all employees, including the owner. The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology and the Office of Research and Graduate Studies of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, in cooperation with the University Veterinarian, are seeking a veterinarian with interest in laboratory animal medicine to provide and supervise medical care to animals used in the teaching and research programs. This is a full-time, non-tenure track, calendar-year, clinical instructor position reporting dually to the College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as to the University Veterinarian. The successful candidate also will be required to teach in an annual, semester-long course “laboratory Animal Management”. The position offers a unique opportunity for a motivated individual interested in the care of rodents, rabbits, small animals and large (agricultural) animals in a research-intensive setting. The Clinical Laboratory Veterinarian will be responsible for providing veterinary support for a comprehensive animal care program and overseeing the health and well-being of College owned research and teaching animals. Responsibilities also include assisting Faculty and investigate staff with development of animal models and research use protocol forms; assisting the unit in achieving and maintaining AALAC accreditation; assisting in the training programs for investigators, research staff, and animal care staff; providing technical guidance to researchers and animal care units; providing surgical and post-operative care; and other duties and responsibilities as assigned. The candidate will provides husbandry to laboratory animals, maintains animal inventory records and Animal Husbandry and Room Maintenance Records and performs facility sanitation in CCM animal facilities. Jobs and Duties: Changes cages or pens following aseptic technique and assures that animals are not contaminated; Performs daily work involving the handling of genetically engineered animal models, animals recovering from surgery, animals with immuno-compromised health status, or other invasive procedures, neonates, etc.; Evaluate animal’s health each day and report abnormal clinical signs to the veterinary staff; Maintain animal rooms and facility hallways in a clean state so that secondary infections or other contamination do not occur; Use current technology including PDAs and bar code application to record animal health observations, daily cage census, weaned cages, and other important management practices; Track progress of neonates and determine when animals should be weaned; Assists the Facility Manager or his/her designee with incoming animals and supplies; Report facility and environmental issues that fall outside animal welfare regulatory requirements to the Facility Manager or designee; Operates cage washer, autoclave and other animal facility equipment; Sanitize animal facility equipment including the use of rack washers, tunnel washers, autoclaves for sterilization and acidified watering systems; Attend technician meetings and training sessions on all aspects of laboratory animal care and uses of animals in biomedical research as scheduled by the supervisory staff; Assemble caging supplies with properly sterilized feed and water; Record critical facility data/documentation on a daily basis required by local, state and federal regulatory agencies overseeing how animals are cared for and used in research, teaching and education; Work weekends and holidays, as assigned. The College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University offers a two-year research fellowship for specialty-trained veterinarians. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide a significant research experience for clinical specialists committed to an academic career. This fellowship will provide an intensive research experience under the mentorship of a strong scientist who supports investigations of laboratory or clinical hypotheses relevant to clinical disease. Approximately 80% of the appointment will be devoted to research, with the remaining time available for clinical practice in the applicant’s field of specialty.
