  • Research Fellowship Veterinary Specialist Cornell University
    The College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University offers a two-year research fellowship for specialty-trained veterinarians. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide a significant research experience for clinical specialists committed to an academic career. This fellowship will provide an intensive research experience under the mentorship of a strong scientist who supports investigations of laboratory or clinical hypotheses relevant to clinical disease. Approximately 80% of the appointment will be devoted to research, with the remaining time available for clinical practice in the applicant’s field of specialty. Positions are available for specialists in any discipline. Qualifications : Applicants must have a D.V.M, or equivalent degree, and have completed a residency training program in any specialty field by July 2009. This program is not intended for applicants with a PhD or enrolled in a PhD program. Applicants should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae and contact information for 3 individuals that could provide a reference by January 15, 2009. In addition, a brief (less than 4 page) research project proposal should be submitted that includes the background and justification, specific aims and hypothesis, and research plan for their proposal. The identification of specific laboratories in which the research would be pursued and communication with a faculty mentor is encouraged .   • Clinical Instructor of Veterinary Surgery
    The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine has an opening for a clinical instructor in Small Animal Surgery. This will be a one year appointment with 38 weeks of assigned clinic duty. The primary job responsibility will be to lead a surgical service (orthopedics or soft tissue). Responsibilities will include primary patient care and clinical training of students, interns, and residents assigned to the surgical service. Other teaching assignments may include junior operative practice laboratories and limited didactic teaching of core, track and/or elective student courses. Participation is expected in general Small Animal Surgery service activities, such as meetings, resident seminars, journal club and rounds. The applicant must be committed to excellent patient management, client service, and clinical teaching. American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) diplomate status would be preferred.     • Performs euthanasia and necropsy of laboratory animals as required.
    Requirements
    • Knowledge of animal care techniques and procedures (protocol methodology) is required and research experience is desired.
    • Proficiency in basic clinical laboratory skills including ability to follow standardized orders, execute timed events and administration of research test articles.
    • Position requires minimum of 2-year veterinary technology degree or equivalent experience. Certification as a registered or certified veterinary technician (RVT./CVT./AHT/LATg, CMAR.) is desired. College degree is desired, but not required.
    • Animal care and research responsibilities require long periods of walking and standing and the ability to lift or otherwise move animal subjects. Ability to bend, stoop and climb is necessary in ensuring data is accurately collected.
    • Ability to function in concert with Institute staff
