As a world-class research institution, The University of Massachusetts Medical School, is now seeking an animal care technician. The animal care technician, under the immediate supervision of the Animal Facility Supervisor, performs a variety of duties related to the care of laboratory animals.
Requirements: Valid Class D State Drivers License & High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Duties and Responsibilities: Performs animal husbandry duties (e.g., feeding, watering, cage/pen cleaning); Observes, records, and reports atypical findings of the environment, physical plant, and animal health or behavior; Handles restraint and sexing of laboratory animals; Sanitizes animal rooms, animal corridors, animal procedure rooms, animal morgue refrigerator, cage-wash rooms, and necropsy room; Prepares and distributes routine medications as directed by veterinary staff; Maintains animal room records; Operates and performs routine maintenance on floor machines, bottle washer, rack washer, autoclaves, tunnel washer; Sanitizes all animal care equipment; Keep assigned work areas stocked with supplies needed for routine operation of the area; Assist Grade 13 or above personnel in the operation and maintenance of aquatic life support systems; Operates Shuttle Vehicles; Removes and disposes of waste; Performs other related duties as assigned.
