    • Stay up-to-date with new medical information and changes in veterinary medicine, fulfill VCA requirements for attending local VCA Continuing Education meetings and complete at least 30 hours of accredited CE per year.
    • Maintain client/patient medical/surgical records and make certain all necessary logs are kept up-to-date through established protocols; assist colleagues in follow-up and future management of the patient.
    • Positively represent the hospital and VCA in the professional community and to the general public.
    • Assist in the development of the paraprofessional team to ensure the delivery of the highest quality care and exceptional client service.

    Will be responsible for performing veterinary services at the Animal Services Shelter including examining, evaluating, diagnosing, treating, vaccinating, sterilizing, and euthanizing animals; supervise the rabies control program, provide training to staff, and provide professional advice, expert testimony, and/or information to citizens, boards, committees, and in court proceedings. Extensive knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, ordinances and regulations including controlled substances and common animal diseases and behaviors, and animal capture, tranquilizing, vaccination, euthanasia and handling techniques. Knowledge of infectious diseases, conditions, and behaviors typically found in animals and occurring in an animal shelter environment, and effective disinfection and quarantine procedures and techniques of animal field chemical capture, transport, and humane handling techniques. Effective written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with large groups, media and citizens; effective conflict resolution, multi-tasking, and managing non-routine or emergency circumstances. Ability to prepare and oversee staff training and to accurately recognize, diagnose, and treat illnesses injuries, and diseases in a variety of domestic animals. Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of related experience with animal shelter experience preferred. Current State of Texas Veterinary Medicine license required Texas Class C driver’s license with no major violations within the past 3 years.
