Working with other dedicated staff, the incumbent will report to the Toxicology/Target Animal Safety Group Leader in VMRD/Lab Sciences/Metabolism & Safety (M&S) to serve VMRD needs for expertise in pathology, toxicology, drug development and regulatory submissions. This position is in the Racing Chemistry section of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Assist in conducting chemical extractions of biological, legal samples and/or sample screening by immunoassay kit testing or by HPLC testing, or other as directed. Prepare reagents, order supplies, clean the lab workplace, pick up samples and other duties as directed by senior staff. Pick up samples from bus station and transport to lab, manipulate loaded sample cases, handle supplies, spot TLC plates, using pipettes and liquid dispensers, extract samples, use custom lab computer system.
Required Qualifications:
One year of related laboratory experience, or any combination of related experience and/or related undergraduate courses in physical or natural sciences that is equivalent to one year of full-time employment.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of college level chemistry coursework or 6 months of chemistry lab work experience. Must have valid driver’s license or access to transportation to pick up samples. Must be able to handle and pick up 50 pounds frequently. Must have excellent hand-to-eye coordination and accurate color recognition. Ability to communicate effectively and follow verbal and written instructions on a normal basis for daily duties.
