Senior Scientist – Pathology, Cambridge, Massachusetts The principle function of this position is to define the biologic effects of novel xenobiotics in normal laboratory animals. This will include the design, conduct, interpretation, and reporting of non-clinical studies of the safety (toxicity) and toxicokinetics / pharmacodynamics of compounds in discovery and development stages.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Studies may involve development or use of in vitro test systems or animal models including genetically modified animals to evaluate biological responses. Creativity and innovation in the application of biological sciences to solve toxicology and side effect issues. Ability to lead a cross functional team in addressing the challenges of determining the biological effects of target modulation or unintended consequences of xenobiotic administration.
Preferred Qualifications:
Requires board certification as an anatomic or clinical veterinary pathologist, preferably with a Ph.D. and 1-2 years toxicology or related experience.
Must have strong background in molecular biology, toxicology, pharmacology and/or biochemistry. Familiar with the application of in vitro or animal models in determining the biological consequence of modulation of a molecular target or administration of xenobiotics. Experience in designing, conducting, and reporting studies with an understanding of the strategic applications of findings. Experienced with Microsoft Office applications.
Must possess leadership and communication skills and be a team player with the ability to work independently to resolve issues.

This is a full-time, calendar-year, non-tenure track, clinical instructor position reporting dually to the College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as to the University Veterinarian. The Clinical Laboratory Veterinarian will be responsible for providing veterinary support for a comprehensive animal care program and overseeing the health and well-being of College owned research and teaching animals.
Required Qualifications
A degree in Veterinary Medicine from an AVMA accredited school and a higher degree (Master’s or PhD) with a focus on Laboratory Animal Medicine. Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the United States and in the State of Virginia. Must be eligible for an FBI background check to obtain access into ABSL-3 facilities where Select Agents are housed and used. Must be able to communicate effectively and work within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer at least three years of professional experience in laboratory animal medicine.
