- Internal Medicine Specialist, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)
The internist will be board certified (or eligible) by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and will perform all the tasks of a veterinary internist including advanced medical procedures, ultrasound, endoscopy, laporoscopy, and bronchoscopy. The internist will work closely with the medical director to insure the highest level of care for the patients of Bergh Memorial. They will also help coordinate both the internship and residency program at Bergh. They will work closely with the staff doctors at Bergh and be available for consultations and second opinions on medical cases.
Job Responsibilities:
* Perform advanced medical procedures including ultrasound, endoscopy, laporoscopy and bronchoscopy.
* Lead hospital rounds.
* Lead intern rounds.
* In house internal medicine consults on complex cases for both BMAH and Adoptions.
* Coordinate internship and residency program as directed by the medical director.
* Perform internal medicine consults for clients.
* Prompt client and when appropriate referring DVM communication.
* Represent the ASPCA as needed in the media.
* Training of staff veterinarians.
* Supervise staff veterinarians as appropriate with direction of Medical Director or in his/her absence.
Education: Licensed veterinarian, board certification (or eligible) by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Experience: 5 Years experience as ACVIM specialist preferred.
Knowledge Requirements: Impromed. Excel. Powerpoint.

- Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor in Small Animal Surgery, The University of Sydney
An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated veterinary specialist to join the small animal surgery team at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Sydney (UVTHS). This is a unique opportunity to take on an important leadership role in an outstanding, AVMA-accredited veterinary teaching hospital, in one of the world’s most desirable cities. The successful applicant must have a veterinary degree and a postgraduate qualification that allows for registration as a Specialist in small animal surgery in NSW.
The UVTHS has benefited recently from major financial support. The Valentine Charlton Cat Centre, which opened in 2004, has gained international recognition as a state-of-the-art feline referral facility, generating large clinical research output and offering residency training programs in feline medicine. The $2.8 million Canine Centre opened in early 2008 and presents as one of the most sophisticated teaching hospitals in the country. New equipment acquisitions include MRI, CT, computed radiography and videoendoscopy. The hospital is supported by an extensive range of specialist staff in orthopaedic surgery, diagnostic imaging, medicine, neurology, dermatology and ophthalmology.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Professor Kenneth Johnson and a team of highly qualified surgical and support staff. The appointee would be expected to play a leading role in expanding the UVTHS small animal surgery referral service, to actively participate in the Faculty’s clinical research programs and to provide excellent teaching to undergraduates and postgraduate veterinarians. The appointee must have the flexibility to work independently and as part of a team while demonstrating outstanding clinical and communication skills to deliver quality teaching, research and clinical practice. A proven record of financial responsibility is essential.
The Faculty has an excellent reputation in learning and teaching. To maintain this, the appointee will be required to undertake the Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education). Participation in the development and implementation of the UVTHS and Surgery Unit Strategic Plans will be expected. Experience in mentoring and managing staff is desirable. For appointment as Senior Lecturer the following additional requirements must be met: a postgraduate research based degree; evidence of research publications relevant to small animal surgery; experience in managing and mentoring staff; and demonstrated administrative skills.
The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees.
Remuneration package: a competitive salary package (which includes a base salary, leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation), plus a Discretionary Salary Supplement will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
Level of appointment and responsibility will be commensurate with skills and experience. Some relocation cost support will be provided and visa sponsorship will be available for the successful appointee if required.

An outstanding individual is sought to initiate new programs of physiology research (70%) and teaching (30%). We anticipate that research approaches would likely emphasize molecular, cellular, genomic, or proteomic tools and techniques but appreciation of whole-animal responses are also necessary. Intended research emphasis on dairy animals is required and experience with dairy cattle is highly desirable. Expectations include teaching of either undergraduate and/or graduate physiology courses. The major responsibility is the establishment and maintenance of an extramurally funded research program with scholarship excellence. The capacity to attract successful graduate students and active research collaborations is critical. Candidates must function in a team setting and integrate into the fabric and community of the department and college. Multidisciplinary collaboration with scientists in other departments such as Animal and Poultry Science and the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine is anticipated.
Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications and experience for this position are a doctorate in Dairy/Animal/Veterinary Science, Biological Sciences or related areas. Evidence of excellent research, communication and teamwork skills is essential. For appointment at the Associate Professor level, individuals will be expected to have a previously established competitive externally funded research program and a documented record of productivity, as well as sustained creativity demonstrated by grant support and research accomplishments.
