Animal Care Technician, Iowa City Animal Shelter Iowa City Animal Shelter is currently seeking an Animal Care Technician. The Iowa City Animal Shelter is located at 4852 Sand Rd SE, Iowa City; 5 miles south of Highway 6 and Gilbert. Requirements: Employee is required to work closely with both domestic and wild animals and will be exposed to related hazards; Able to work in very busy and high stress environment; Must have ability to lift 80 or more pounds frequently; Employee is required to perform extensive crawling, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and bending; Employee may be exposed to chemical hazards and communicable diseases.
Duties and Responsibilities: Performs tests including heartworm, leukemia, and fecal tests using prescribed methods and instruction; Cares for animals; Performs behavioral evaluations on all animals and files reports; Performs adoption counseling with the general public for animal matching; Performs general custodial duties, washes windows, floors, does laundry and removes garbage; Recommends animals for euthanasia based on guidelines and performs euthanasia; Prepares animals for rabies testing; Trains workers with court-appointed community service hours; Assists volunteers; Reads results of medical screening tests and may make recommendations for treatment if necessary; Maintains kennel inventory report; Cleans and disinfects all animal areas and equipment; Performs all other related duties as assigned; Vaccinates, medicates, and performs other standard medical protocols; Gives educational information to the public and answers questions relating to impounded animals and community animal related problems; Performs computer input for animal medical records.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification: Must be comfortable around animals and able to handle fractious animals with appropriate equipment; One year of experience in animal handling required; Veterinary Technician License/Certification and/or equivalent experience in a related field required; Valid Iowa driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required; Euthanasia Technician certification and Temperament Evaluator certification both required after hire; High school diploma or equivalent required; Must have excellent public relations skills and be public service oriented.

The internist will work closely with the medical director to insure the highest level of care for the patients of Bergh Memorial. They will also help coordinate both the internship and residency program at Bergh. Job Responsibilities:
* Perform advanced medical procedures including ultrasound, endoscopy, laporoscopy and bronchoscopy.
* Lead hospital rounds.
* Lead intern rounds.
* In house internal medicine consults on complex cases for both BMAH and Adoptions.
* Coordinate internship and residency program as directed by the medical director.
* Perform internal medicine consults for clients.

* Represent the ASPCA as needed in the media.
