VCA Palm Beach County Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced, F/T Associate Veterinarian to join their 2-doctor practice in sunny Lake Worth, Florida. The Associate Veterinarian educates clients on, advocates for and strives to deliver the highest quality medical, surgical, dental and nutritional diagnostics, treatment, and preventative care to companion animals.
The successful applicant will spend a 10-12 week period during the calendar year as an intern at Merck. The Veterinary Internship Program provides an industrial research experience to highly-qualified individuals who have interest in laboratory animal medicine, pathology, comparative medicine, or related areas in biomedical research.
The internships are intended for veterinary students, veterinary residents, or veterinary graduate students in pathology, laboratory animal medicine, or a related field (pharmacology, toxicology etc.). Applicants must be currently enrolled in a veterinary school, or a veterinary graduate currently enrolled in or having recently completed a residency or research training in the biomedical sciences.

The Lead Animal Care Technician must be technically proficient with all rodent species, in animal husbandry and animal surgery/?anesthesia.? This person will be required to perform diversified technical, animal husbandry, administrative and animal health surveillance duties. This person is required to complete assigned work schedules with little to no supervision.? The technician should be able to work independently and make correct decisions in their daily routine.? The position requires weekend and holiday work hours.? The position involves daily exposure to laboratory animals and their waste products.
This position also provides husbandry and care to laboratory animals, maintains records for animal inventory and Animal Husbandry and Room Maintenance and performs facility sanitation in DLAMs Animal Facilities. This will include: train animal care technicians, staff, faculty and student workers; care for and monitor general health of the animals; inspect animal care rooms/?facilities to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and respond to off-duty and emergency calls.
Qualifications
Bachelors or Associates Degree in Veterinary Science, Veterinary Technology, Animal Health Science, or related field.? Must be technically experienced with most procedures, and with anesthesia and handling of most laboratory animals. Must be able to communicate well both orally and in writing. A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience.? AALAS certification at Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level or higher, and/?or demonstrated equivalent experience.? If not AALAS certified, employee must obtain LATG certification within 3 years of employment. Facilitates communication between the DLAM staff and investigative staff, including problem solving and fostering teamwork and must be able to interact professional with Northeastern University staff and faculty at all levels.
