Incumbent also assists with post-operative care and general animal health. AAALAS certification at LAT or LATg preferred Duties and responsibilities: Performs animal surgical support for surgical procedures and routine operating functions. Assists Veterinarian in administering medications, and in collection of specimens, tissue, and blood for laboratory analysis. Cleans, sterilizes, and repackages instruments, and cleans surgical suite. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment in the surgical suites. Maintains supplies and drugs for the operating and animal rooms. Keeps records in accordance with federal regulations. Works well in team-effort situations and independently with minimal supervision. Requires board certification as an anatomic or clinical veterinary pathologist, preferably with a Ph.D. and 1-2 years toxicology or related experience. Must have strong background in molecular biology, toxicology, pharmacology and/or biochemistry. Familiar with the application of in vitro or animal models in determining the biological consequence of modulation of a molecular target or administration of xenobiotics.
