    REQUIRED SKILLS: Any combination of education and progressively responsible technical experience which qualifies the candidate to sit for the LAT Certification Exam within 12 months of hire or- Associate degree in Life Sciences or Veterinary Technology. Will encourage achievement of LAT Certification, however this is not a requirement. ALAT certification preferred. In addition to education requirements, ability to demonstrate efficient performance of standardized operating procedures for an animal facility; learn and perform technical procedures; lift up to 50 lbs., construct and solve simple mathematical equations and utilize basic computer skills. Wear respiratory protection equipment if necessary. Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures for animal facilities. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance. Responsible for the daily care of research animals within the Receiving and Quarantine facility, to include the routine animal housekeeping and facility cleaning duties associated with an Animal Caretaker II. Will spend a major portion of time performing specialized technical procedures necessary to maintain continuous operation of the Receiving and Quarantine facility, focused on husbandry functions and diagnostic sampling. Work is reviewed by senior level staff to ensure conformance to experimental and therapeutic protocols. Strict adherence to safety protocols is necessary and personal protective equipment may be required. Work shall be checked periodically for application of proper techniques.
