The successful applicant will spend a 10-12 week period during the calendar year as an intern at Merck. The Veterinary Internship Program provides an industrial research experience to highly-qualified individuals who have interest in laboratory animal medicine, pathology, comparative medicine, or related areas in biomedical research.
The internships are intended for veterinary students, veterinary residents, or veterinary graduate students in pathology, laboratory animal medicine, or a related field (pharmacology, toxicology etc.). Duties and Responsibilities: Subject Matter Expert (SME) and knowledge resource for lab; Have knowledge of laboratory equipment and procedures; Prepare specimens for routine laboratory assays; Read, understand, and follow applicable standard operating procedure; Accurately enter assay results into client reports; Run laboratory assays and analysis; Ensure client turnaround times (TATs) are met; Perform maintenance procedures as directed; Enter and track client sample and result information; Clean and stock supplies in work area; Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and abnormal test results; Perform maintenance procedures as directed; Assist in development of new procedures and protocols to improve efficiency of department; Understand and follow IDEXX laboratory safety procedures; Understand and follow IDEXX quality control procedures; Basic understanding and following concepts of LEAN and 5S; Interpret and report out on results; proficiency testing.
Requirements: Minimum 4 years laboratory experience and/or education preferred; Vet tech, MLT, MT College degree in science and/or military lab specialist preferred; HT or HTL certification or eligible (ASCP) preferred; National certification or eligible preferred; Data entry skills preferred; Good oral and written communication skills; Knowledge of GCP guidelines as appropriate; Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
The successful candidate must possess experience in Hematology, Serology, Chemistry, Urinalysis and Ova and Parasite. Differential experience is required and animal differential experience is a plus. Apply Online
