Veterinary Medical Director, VCA Tanglewilde Animal Hospital, Olympia, WA

VCA Tanglewilde Animal Hospital is seeking a qualified Veterinarian to join 2-doctor practice in Olympia, Washington as Medical Director. Their AAHA-accredited, long-established animal hospital, have strong veterinary and paraprofessional team along with a loyal clientele, plus a remodel is planned for the facility. The Medical Director mentors the veterinary and technical staff and oversees the medical standards and profitable operations of the practice, in addition to educating clients on and striving to deliver the highest quality surgical, medical, dental and nutritional diagnostics, treatment, and preventative care to companion animals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the hiring, reviewing, disciplining and terminating of professional staff, in accordance with and with the approval of the Regional Medical Director or Group Vice President; Direct and develop the veterinary, technical and administrative staff towards the goal of quality patient care and excellent client service; Stay up-to-date with new medical information and changes in veterinary medicine, complete at least 30 hours of accredited CE per calendar year and fulfill VCA requirements for attending local VCA Continuing Education meetings; perform physical examinations and diagnostic/medical/surgical/dental procedures in a way that will deliver the highest quality care; Develop a rapport with clients and determine their needs and wishes; Supervise the administration and case review of client medical complaints; Explain physical examination findings and communicate to the client a diagnosis of the pet’s problems; Positively represent the hospital and VCA in the professional community and to the general public; educate clients on preventative health care, including vaccines and appropriate nutritional products.

Requirements:
A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, or equivalent, from an accredited university; The ability to make decisions, delegate responsibility and achieve results with hospital team members; Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially to a diverse range of audiences and settings; Licensed in good standing to practice in the state in which applicant is to be employed; Respect for and willingness to work with clients and their pets; Professional comportment and appearance, with excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly, positive attitude; A commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine, upholding the veterinary code of ethics, and to promoting attendance of continuing education events by both the Medical Director and Associate Veterinarians.
