JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):

• Minimum 1 year experience working with animals in a clinical setting
• Skillful at handling animals
• Ability to work well independently and in a team
• Good interpersonal, communication, organization, and math skills
• Computer literacy

This position is responsible for organizing and performing the necessary support work related to the health
care of the cats and dogs under direct supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Knowledge of and compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and all procedures and protocols in the Nestlé Purina R&D Petcare Manual, QMS and GLP
2. Perform pet care procedures as follows:

• Perform daily rounds & treatments and report to the veterinarian sick or unusual behavior
• Observe animals during treatment; monitor & report progress to vet
• Provide care of pets in clinic
• Prepare drugs & instructions for weekend treatments
• Administer monthly heartworm prevention
• Organize & assist with colony dental program
• Contact & assist relief vet when needed
• Perform surgery supply set-up including sterilization of surgical instruments
• Prep patient for surgical procedure
• Monitor heart rate, respiration & temp of patient during and after anesthetic procedure

3. Maintain necessary records as follows:

• Record animal medical/clinical data as outlined in experimental procedure or NT protocol
• Maintain animal records in orderly manner
• File laboratory results
• Maintain anesthetic logbook
• Enter pertinent medical information into puppy adoption file in a timely manner
• Maintain updated treatment list

4. Maintenance of veterinary suite and associated areas:

• Maintain safe, sanitary & orderly work area
• Clean & sanitize work area daily (vet suite) or as used (DEXA, radiology.)
• Clean-up of surgical suite & instruments post-op

5. Practice safety in the work area

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS PREFERED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

• Advanced training or experience in animal science, veterinary technology, or animal handling, grooming, or behavior
• Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology
• Licensed Veterinary Technologist in the State of Missouri

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist veterinarian & other technicians with blood & urine collections
• Assist veterinarian & other technicians with vaccination program and administration
• Actively participate in training and skill development as needed
• Additional duties as assigned
